Rhinoplasty

As a feature in the center of your face, the nose can have a significant impact on your overall appearance.

If you are unhappy with a nose that is too wide or narrow, a nose that is asymmetrical or one that does not fit with your other facial features, changing its appearance can make you feel more confident and attractive from every angle. At Escobar MD Facial Plastic Surgery, internationally-renowned facial plastic surgeon Dr. Paulo A. Escobar and his staff are ready to assist you in achieving the aesthetically-pleasing nose that balances out your features and enhances your natural beauty for years to come.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgery, or “nose job”, is a procedure designed to make permanent enhancements to the size, shape and symmetry of your nose. There are a variety of different ways the surgery can be performed, allowing Dr. Paulo A. Escobar to customize each procedure to the distinct needs of each of his patients. The goal of rhinoplasty is to create subtle changes to the nose that have a profound effect on the entire appearance of the face, producing natural and proportional results.

If the function of your nose is compromised, whether due to a deviated septum or other structural abnormality, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar can perform a functional rhinoplasty, or septoplasty, during your rhinoplasty procedure to improve both the appearance and functionality of your nose. By combining these procedures, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar can provide you with a comprehensive outcome with just one time under anesthesia and one recovery process.

Who is
a candidate for Rhinoplasty?

With a wide variety of techniques to choose from, including revision rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty, this procedure can be used to address an array of both aesthetic and structural concerns of the nose, including:

  • Change the size of the nose in relation to other facial features
  • Alter the width of the nose at the base
  • Remove bumps along the nasal bridge
  • Adjust or reduce the size or shape of the nostrils
  • Enhance the shape, projection and rotation of the nose tip
  • Adjust or reduce the profile of the nose to create a more attractive facial contour
  • Enhance the overall balance and symmetry of the nose
  • Correct the septum to improve breathing obstructions

At your initial consultation at Escobar MD, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar will listen carefully to your concerns regarding your nose so he can understand your desired outcomes in detail. He will take measurements of the main features of your nose in relation to your other facial structures, as well as take photos of your face to provide a computerized simulation of your desired results. This technology allows you to participate in the planning of your rhinoplasty and what results to anticipate, so there are no surprises after your surgery.

What ages are safe to undergo Rhinoplasty Surgery?

A wide range of ages can enjoy the benefits of a rhinoplasty procedure.

Generally speaking, patients should wait to undergo rhinoplasty surgery until their nose has reached its adult size and stopped growing. For girls, nose development stops around the age of 15 or 16, and for boys, it is about a year or so later. However, it is essential for patients who are not over the age of 18 to have realistic expectations and be mature enough to handle the procedure. In most cases, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar will encourage teenage patients to wait until they are 18 or older to undergo the procedure to ensure they are responsible enough to follow post-procedure recommendations.

On the other hand, elderly patients can enjoy the positive effects of a rhinoplasty procedure just as much as younger patients. As you age, the nose loses some of the characteristics that are present during your youth, primarily the position of the nose tip. The tip of the nose can droop with age, causing patients to look older than they feel. Rhinoplasty in elderly patients can be performed on its own or to complement other rejuvenation procedures for comprehensive anti-aging outcomes.

How is
Rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty can be performed under general or local anesthesia, but in most cases, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar recommends general anesthesia for your safety and a faster recovery process. As a facial plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty procedures, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar only utilizes the most current and advanced techniques that have proven successful and will work with you to select the method that best suits your needs.

Dr. Paulo A. Escbobar’s rhinoplasty methods avoid the use of external incisions that can leave visible scarring, also known as closed rhinoplasty. Incisions in a closed rhinoplasty are limited to the internal nasal cavities, making it a less invasive procedure. Dr. Paulo A. Escobar begins by making the necessary incisions to access the internal structure of the nose. Once the desired changes are made, incisions will be closed and your recovery process will begin.

After your Rhinoplasty

Thanks to the minimally-invasive, closed techniques used by Dr. Paulo A. Escobar, the recovery process after your rhinoplasty surgery should be relatively quick and comfortable. While other surgical procedures in rhinoplasty require the use of nasal packing after surgery, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar eliminates the need for this step with his closed techniques to drastically reduce residual swelling. While you will likely experience mild discomfort, bruising, swelling and congestion after your procedure, these effects should resolve within a few days of your procedure.

Dr. Paulo A. Escobar will prescribe pain medication to help you manage all postoperative symptoms. Most patients can expect to return to work or resume normal daily activities after about one week of recovery, though strenuous activities should be avoided until you receive clearance from Dr. Paulo A. Escobar. In the days and weeks following your rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Paulo A. Escobar will perform several postoperative follow-ups to ensure that your nose is healing correctly and that you achieve the best possible results.

Your Rhinoplasty Results

The full results of your rhinoplasty procedure should begin to become apparent one to two weeks after your surgery when bruising and swelling has started to dissipate. However, residual swelling can extend for six months to a year after your procedure, so it is crucial to be patient as you are waiting to see your new nose. After six months to a year, your new nasal contours and structures should be completely settled, and the results of your rhinoplasty surgery will be evident.

Once your final look is apparent, it will be permanent, and you should not need any additional surgery to maintain your results. Because Dr. Paulo A. Escobar takes the time to set realistic expectations with his patients before surgery, most are fully satisfied with their natural and balanced results. All check-up consultations after your surgery will be free of charge, as Dr. Paulo A. Escobar prides himself on ensuring you remain happy with your appearance for years to come.
